Madrid Stock Exchange/ Our building

Visit the Madrid Stock Exchange Palace

The Stock Exchange building at number 1 Plaza de la Lealtad, inaugurated in 1893, is very much alive. Among the locations of the European Stock Exchanges that emerged in the mid-nineteenth century -practically twenty of the stock exchange buildings in Europe were built during the second half of that century- it is practically the only one of its contemporaries that continues to fulfill the function of a financial meeting place for which it was created. Except for New York, Frankfurt or some other square in Latin America, there are no longer any unique buildings that continue to justify their beginning in the stock market, even though they now fulfill the purposes of representation and academic reference of the always special financial-stock market world.

The Palace is located in a privileged setting, within the Paseo del Prado-Recoletos axis and the Retiro Park, known as "Landscape of Light", declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
